The World Health Organisation (WHO) recognises World Mental Health Day on October 10 each year.

Mental Health for All

This year’s theme is ‘Mental Health for All’, chosen by The World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic as the world struggles to find a solution to bring the virus under control.

What is mental health?

Mental health is a term that includes our psychological, emotional and social well-being. Our mental health affects how we feel, act and think, also determining how we handle stresses related to others and the choices surrounding those.

What are mental health problems?

Mental health problems affect everyone differently and can range from worries experiences as part of everyday life through to serious long-term and debilitating conditions.

Symptoms can vary but an Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey (APMS) from 2014 found that one in six people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem. have put together a simple A-Z guide which can be found on their website.

What is good mental health? categorise good mental health as:

  • making the most of your potential
  • coping with life
  • playing a full part in your family, workplace, community and among friends
