On April 7th each year, the World Health Organisation (WHO) observe World Health Day to call for urgent action to eliminate global health inequalities.
The focus from the WHO this year is to highlight urgent actions needed to ‘keep humans and the planet healthy’ and to foster a movement to ‘create societies focused on well-being.’
As global growers of great quality fresh fruit, and as part of our vision to be the most transparent company in fresh produce, we proud that every business decision we make is a step towards our overall goal of full transparency, visibility of supply and a continual culture of change.
Why World Health Day?
This years World Health Day’s theme is ‘our planet, our health’ and is aiming to further the debate around the impact of the environment on our health. The WHO are asking us to reimagine a world where clean air, water and food are available to all, where economies are focused on health and well-being and where cities are liveable, and people have control over their health and the health of the planet.
Aiding healthy lifestyle changes…
As part of our on-going commitment to the planet we announced earlier this year that we have joined forces with packaging supplier Sharpak Aylesham and the Prevented Ocean Plastic™ (POP) initiative to introduce a recycled solution for our prepared fruit punnets.
Furthering our sustainability message, we followed our POP packaging news by sharing the statistics surrounding our UK natural energy output made from the prepared fruit waste from our BRCGS AA rated packhouse near our UK HQ; and how our biomass is powering local homes.
