Jupiter’s CEO reveals the latest on unique new grape projects

Jupiter’s exciting and pioneering development of new varieties of grape have gone under the spotlight at Asia Fruit Logistica 2018 in Hong Kong.

It comes after our CEO Mark Tweddle took centre stage when he was interviewed in the event’s media centre by Michael Barker, of Fruitnet Media International, at Fruchthandel.

Just one topic of conversation was how Jupiter is “flying the flag for Great Britain” on an international stage with its pioneering cultivation of new, unique and exclusive, table grapes.

Mark said: “A lot of retailers now want to work directly all over the world, and it was our intention to get fully integrated in the supply chain.

“That’s why we got involved in growing, and the key was developing new varieties in different countries that haven’t had those varieties before.

“If we take the two most unique varieties, we are the first people to take new varieties to India of any products, which are the ARRA and IniaOne grape breeding projects.

“We have a farm there ourselves where we’ve planted and we are doing trials on.”

Exciting growth plans revealed

“We have big growth plans in India, so it’s exciting for them to have other products, other than just the Thompson and other traditional varieties,” Mark added.

“And then the same in Greece, we have the exclusivity of the ARRA and Inia projects.

“This is the first year we have had production from them and we are looking forward to seeing how that looks, and having the fruit in the market and the end of this month and in October.

“I think, with having the new varieties, it gives us a point of difference to go into new markets – it’s very important, now we’re a grower, that we spread our basket of customers that we supply.”

Mark’s interview was broadcast on all the big screens at the Asia Fruit Logistica trade show, being held at AsiaWorld-Expo Centre in Lantau, Hong Kong, as well as across other media as the new grape developments continue to garner widespread, global interest.
