The harvest of our fantastic Eureka lemons is drawing to a close on our Limpopo based farms and we’re looking ahead to the start of our Star Ruby grapefruit season.
We’re preparing our market-leading packhouse to ensure it is ready to receive the Star Ruby’s that we will start the initial picking of in the coming week.
Star Ruby grapefruit
Raised in prime farmland, our Star Ruby grapefruit are nurtured to an outstanding quality, providing good-sized sought-after fruit before other growing areas in South Africa.
Star Ruby grapefruit have an attractive, red-blushed skin and a smooth golden rind with a tart yet sweet flavour and a high juice content.
Handpicked from our farm, our Star Rubies are harvested at the optimum time to provide superb quality fruit with an ideal balance of bitter-sweet flesh.
South African farming conditions
Although rain initially delayed our Eureka lemon crop, we’re pleased to note that the excess water has had a positive effect on our Star Ruby grapefruit and Valencia crop. The rain allowed further growth on our grapefruit and has positively impacted our sizing profile.
Conditions in South Africa are currently ideal, with cool weather in the morning of around 17 °C which increases to an afternoon average of around 27-30 °C.
Conditions of the market
Our lemons are packed and on the way to our trusted customers in the Middle East, EU and South East Asia.
The main harvest of our Star Ruby’s will start WEEK 16 with the fruit expected to be on the water the week after.
