Rockafellas Football Club continues to go from strength to strength
Rockafellas Football Club is just one of the community initiatives that we have been a long term and proud supporter of here at Jupiter Group through our Nancy Tweddle Foundation.
Back in September we revealed how seven of the boys had been successfully scouted with one set to join Cape Town City FC on a semi-pro contract basis, and six others were looking forward to playing with Bolton Wanderers FC and touring with Manchester United FC.
Well, we’re delighted to reveal even more success for this fantastic team.
A club first
That’s because the Rockafellas FC Under 18s team has qualified for the biggest youth tournament in South Africa – for the very first time in its history.
Having won all major cup awards, and being the overall league winners and champion of champions for their division this year, they have now qualified for the “most prestigious youth tournament” the Under 19s Premier Bayhill Cup for 2019.
Club administrator and logistics manager Nino Solomon said: “Jupiter has played a major role in the club’s success. Since they’ve been involved we have reached unexpected achievements.
“The Premier Bayhill Cup is a massive youth event, which is on national and international standards, where quality teams/academies from South Africa and also abroad (Germany/England) participate.”
Nino also revealed that our 16 and 17-year-old players currently on trial with Bolton Wanderers FC and Manchester United FC – you can read more on this in our blog here – have made an “impressive” start.
Our CEO Mark Tweddle said: “Huge congratulations to all of the coaches and the children from all of us here at Jupiter.
“It’s always so encouraging to hear that things are going well for all the boys. Well done on all the achievements and progress so far, we can’t wait to hear how the 2019 tournament and trials go.”
Other age divisions within Rockafellas FC have also had their own successes in 2018.
These include the Under 12s winning the MPLFA Knockout Cup for 2018; the Under 10s ending up 5th in their league; the Under 14s ending up third in their league; and, as well as being runners up in the final of the Rockafellas Tournament of Light, the Under 16s team won the MPLFA Champs of Champs Under 16 Cup for 2018.
