We’re looking forward to harvesting our delicious Eureka lemons from WEEK 7 with packing due to commence from WEEK 8 as our farm team will de-green the fruit prior to loading.
It is anticipated that the duration for this crop of lemons will be around three weeks. Following soon after the end of our lemon production, our Star Ruby grapefruit will be ready to harvest.
Our Star Ruby’s are harvested at the optimum time to provide a superb quality fruit with an ideal balance of bitter-sweet flesh.
World-class packhouse…
Each year to support our season we hire a seasonal work-force to complement our existing on-farm team. This year at our packhouse in Limpopo we will employ a team of almost 200 personnel, all of whom will undergo training and a full induction before the start of the season.
At this stage of the season our packhouse is undergoing a deep cleanse and full sanitation of all the facilities and equipment, this is to ensure we start without potential spores left behind from the previous season.
Preventative maintenance is also underway and test runs will be conducted to ensure less down time on start up.
Upgrading the facilities
Although our 2021 season of South African citrus saw us beat our previous orange packing records on our farms, the hard work and determination to improve never stops.
As part of our mission to be the most transparent brand in fresh produce we’re really pleased to share news that upgrades are also under way to ensure premium quality produce in the forthcoming season:
- Chemical incorporation will be automated to ensure acceptable but optimal coverage on our products
- Wax units have been fitted with new applicators and brushes to ensure optimal coverage
- Our GREEFA SmartSort will undergo a service and calibration process before start up
We look forward to packing more than 100,000 cartons of lemons this season!
