In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, last week saw a world exclusive as Fresh Produce India (FPI) Live became the first mobile-ready conference event in the industry.

Hosted by Fruitnet’s Chris White from a London studio with Asiafruit’s John Hey, on hand for analysis from Melbourne, the event brought together expert panellists from around the globe with keynote speakers, including our Joint MD’s Mark and Yvonne.

According to FPI decision makers from every part of the fresh produce business watched the event live with 660 participants from 50 countries logging in.

Keynote speakers Mark and Yvonne

Broadcast live on April 23, viewers were treated to five sessions of ‘quality insight and ideas for the future of the fresh produce business in India’.

In session two, Mark and Yvonne joined Nina Patil, the Director of Fresh Express (India) and Richard Vollebregt at Cravo Equipment (Canada) to discuss production in India and the ways in which some companies are investing in their future.

Our duo spoke of our table grape investment in India with our grower partners Sahyadri Farms. As well as discussing the introduction of exclusive new grapes into the country such as the new ARRA varieties; Yvonne and Mark also touched on giving back to local communities and creating a sustainable business model.

Exclusive new varieties

We are Master License holders for ARRA varieties in India and awarded the exclusive production rights for ARRA in the region to our long-term grower partners, Sahyadri Farms. In the entirety of India, only Jupiter have the exclusive licenses to grow and market these new variety grapes.

Adding value into the industry

Joint MD Yvonne spoke on creating a more consistent product and adding value to the industry:

“The important thing for us at the moment is that our retailers understand that we are doing these things as responsible suppliers and as responsible growers and it’s important that they share the responsibility of getting that across to consumers. Hopefully there is a combined effort to infiltrate the consumers’ understanding.”

CEO and Joint MD Mark says:

“Everything in the market is trying to add value, so it is creating points of difference whether that is on a varietal basis, whether that is the transparency you provide in a supply chain or whether that is the sustainable messages you are giving”.
