A great annual celebration

It was great to support the Field to Fork Family Festival at Harper Adams University in Newport, Shropshire, this weekend, just a stone’s throw away from our UK headquarters.

The university, where both CEO Mark and Director Yvonne studied and first met, hosts a one day annual public celebration of all things agri and the education of knowing where your food comes from.

“We all know what this stuff called food is. We share it with family and friends. We celebrate with it, comfort ourselves with it and fuel our lives with it. And it comes from the supermarket, right? But how many of us really know where it comes from, how it is grown or how it gets to our plates?”

These questions posed by show organisers drove the event’s inaugural festival in 2018 and this year’s proved even bigger and better for all.

One of your five-a-day for free

Jupiter jumped on board to offer all festival goers one of their five-a-day for free with apple baskets set up by the central seating tipi and live music stage. The freebies went down a storm and were quickly scooped up by families wanting to ensure something fresh was on the menu for the day.

Head of Marketing Kirsty Fleetwood said: “It was a superb event with vast array of things for attendees of all ages to learn about and literally get their teeth into.

It’s always a positive experience for us to be involved in local events and bring fresh produce to the forefront, especially when it’s a family affair with many tempting sweet treats for youngsters.”

Edible bugs to archery

There was more than just food on offer and folk from Newport and beyond listened in on talks like ‘the truth about bees; we have to save our world’,  they had the opportunity to try their hand at circus activities, see chainsaw carving live and make footprints in the forest with some hands on bushcraft to name just a few!

The day’s programme was beautifully edited with a poem by Jan Millward;

We’re here to tell the story

of your food from field to fork.

From how we grow your carrots

to how we rear our pork.

We want to share the journey,

how we grow food for your plate.

And invite you to all to join us

on the farm side of the gate.

We want to show the standards

that make our food the best,

we’ll answer all your questions,

come and put us to the test.

Because the future of our planet

depends on what we grow.

In the words of our forefathers

we reap just what we sow.

When you fill up shopping trolleys

you may not fully understand

the steps it has to go through

be it frozen, fresh or canned.

Come along and join us,

light that inner fire.

You’ll find we can inform you,

enlighten and inspire.

We need to share our message

of the part we all must play,

to feed us in the future

by what we choose today.
