Runners get a fruit boost on us during Make Your Mark Down Under challenge

Hundreds of runners went bananas for our bananas when they took part in the charity fundraising run Make Your Mark Down Under at the weekend.

Organised by our partners Sage, through its Sage Foundation, the 6k event was held in Great Park, Newcastle, to raise money for the Invictus Games Foundation, as well as a host of other charities.

When we heard about the event, we offered to send three boxes of bananas – which are hailed as one of the best natural food supplements when it comes to athletic performance – courtesy of our Nancy Tweddle Foundation.

Around 250 people were expected to turn out, but, in the end, 314 runners, 56 children and 12 dogs took part in the challenge on Saturday, September 15, and we were proud to give them a fruit boost to help spur them along.

Helping disadvantaged communities

For everyone that signed up to the event Sage Foundation, which helps disadvantaged communities in all 23 countries where it operates, donated £5 to the cause.

Debbie Wall, Vice President of the Sage Foundation said: “Thank you, thank you, thank you. Your bananas went down a storm.

“We had half a box left, which we donated to St Oswald’s Hospice, which was one of the charities we were raising money for. It was an absolutely amazing weekend.”

The run was part of the Sage Foundation’s $1 million fundraising drive which is encouraging Sage colleagues, partners and customers to raise help boost the brilliant charities that are supported by Sage Foundation.
